What to Expect
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Therapy can be a great experience, helping you to achieve goals and feel better. However, it can also be a bit anxiety-provoking if you are not sure what to expect.
At Perspectives, you will meet with your therapist for an initial session and they will learn more about what you are struggling with and what you want to change in your life. They will develop a plan from there, which they will go over with you to make sure it fits with what you were hoping to do in therapy.
Some people think of therapy as simply having someone to talk to. However, psychotherapy is an active process and while talking is certainly part of therapy, therapy is so much more than that. An effective therapy will engage you in activities meant to help you move through whatever challenge you have been facing, whether that is anxiety, depressed mood, grief, interpersonal difficulties, etc.
What to Expect
ASSESSMENT
Assessments are used to clarify your functioning and determine any possible diagnoses that may be affecting your life. This can be useful for guiding treatment, accessing supports and resources, or determining eligibility for particular resources.
An assessment will typically involve a clinical interview with the Psychologist or Psychological Associate followed by testing. Some assessments can be conducted virtually, while some will require in-person administration.
If you are seeking an assessment and have any questions, feel free to reach out to our team and they will be happy to answer any questions you might have and help you to determine what is the most appropriate assessment for your needs.
